<abstract xml:lang="ru">

The article presents the results of a study of the ideas of girls — users of social networks about their body image. Due to the fact that young users spend a significant amount of time on social networks, it seems important to study the influence of the network environment on users’ ideas about body image as an important component of self-image. The author conducted a study of the bodily «self-image» in the context of slimness among girls who are active users of social networks. The study involved 96 high school girls who were asked to evaluate stimuli according to the bipolar semantic criteria «slim — overweight», «thin — plump», «feminine — masculine», «athletic — unathletic», «fit — loose», «popular — unpopular», «successful — unsuccessful». Based on the results of the study, the semantics of the girls’ bodily «self-image» was determined and compared with the body image as a component of the «virtual self» and the «ideal self». Based on the analysis of the data obtained, it was concluded that users are dissatisfied with their body image as a component of the real «self-image». In addition, the results of the study showed that the image of a successful person on a social network is associated with such components as «slimness», «popularity», «athleticism», «fitness», and «thinness». It was also concluded that girls on social networks present themselves in a more favorable light according to the following parameters: «success», «slimness», «popularity», «athleticism», «fitness», «thinness», «femininity». The results of the study may indicate that girls’ body image is associated with the influence of social networks and other media that demonstrate the connection between slimness and social success.
