<abstract xml:lang="ru">

      <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">

The relevance of the study of the political beliefs of representatives of different social groups is due to the fact that macropsychological research in recent years has documented the phenomenon of psychological polarization of the Russian population. In its most general form, the psychological polarization of society can be defined as a concept that describes a phenomenon that arises in the process of dividing the worldview of citizens into two opposite poles on the most important issues of their life in society. Political beliefs certainly fall into the category of important ideological issues. Psychological polarization is formed when there is objective polarization associated with economic, political and sociocultural differences that people perceive as interfering with their well-being. One of the strategic tools that candidates use in elections is populism. Populism can be defined as a discursive strategy that pits a virtuous population against a corrupt elite and views the former as the only legitimate source of political power. The purpose of the study is to determine differences in political beliefs between residents of Russia with different levels of subjective economic well-being. Methods. To assess political beliefs, we used a short version of J. Duckitt’s methodology, including scales of right-wing authoritarianism, orientation towards social dominance and belief in a dangerous and competitive world, a 12-item populism scale, which allows us to measure anti-elitism, belief in the sovereignty of the people and the homogeneity of the people, the «Perceived political effectiveness» I.R. Sarieva. The total study sample was 1 244 people, including 51 % men. As the level of subjective economic well-being increases, the level of authoritarian subordination also increases. The level of dominance, belief in a dangerous world, anti-elitism and political self-efficacy varies among people with different subjective assessments of economic well-being.
