<abstract xml:lang="ru">

The article contributes to the transformative effects of educational involvement of university students in social-emotional learning, its challenges and benefits. The aim is to test the level of students’ social-emotional learning engagement evaluating the criteria of their choice. The study was carried out on a sample of 284 students enrolled on the Bachelor’s degree at University of Tyumen, studying foreign languages: English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese. Based on one of the rare qualitative methods, such as comparative analysis of social-emotional learning and biographical interview the authors have revealed the challenges and benefits of social-emotional learning. A questionnaire was designed to gather information on students’ engagement in social-emotional learning. The results confirm that there is a significant influence on students’ engagement in
social-emotional learning. Specifically, it shows impact that receiving recognition and valuation can have on youth’s everyday life and even on their future choices. The study provides relevant information and proposes implementation of social-emotional learning in higher education under modern conditions, the challenges and the ways of solving them in the area of focus. The recommendations obtained through our research could be of great support to the teachers and governments as a whole who are concerned with the social-emotional learning of students. The authors investigated an innovative research that social-emotional learning depends on the allocation of criteria: the principle of atmosphere, self-awareness, self-determination, the interaction, the organization of learning and resilience.
