      <abstract xml:lang="ru">
        <p>В данной статье рассматривается подход к обучению способам выражения категории эпистемической модальности на материале научно-популярного дискурса.
Научно-популярный дискурс актуален для обучающихся неязыковых вузов, которые работают в рамках своей дисциплины, а применение разнообразных оттенков модальных значений позволит им верно донести информацию до различной аудитории. Авторы останавливаются на теоретических вопросах, связанных с интерпретацией маркеров эпистемической модальности, а также приводят практические примеры для сопоставительного анализа выражения модальности в английском языке и в переводе. Актуальность исследования обусловлена рядом факторов, а именно: сложностью и неоднозначностью трактовки категории эпистемической модальности в лингвистике, а также тем, что в русском языке меньше средств передачи модальных оттенков значения в функции предположения по сравнению с английским языком. Целью данной статьи является изучение и выработка подходов к обучению разнообразным способам выражения эпистемической модальности в английском языке на материале научно-популярного дискурса. Были сформулированы задачи: изучить научную и методическую литературу по обозначенным вопросам, выявить средства репрезентации эпистемической модальности в научно-популярном дискурсе для определения стратегии обучения при выборе необходимого модального маркера в процессе коммуникации. Для решения поставленных задач были использованы метод научного описания, сопоставительный метод, а также метод интерпретации. Выводы, к которым пришли авторы можно обозначить следующим образом: в
научно-популярном дискурсе отмечается разнообразие модальных маркеров, передающих модальные оттенки предположения или вероятности. Применение сопоставительного анализа при обучении использованию эпистемической модальности позволяет выявить разницу в степени уверенности на англоязычных и русскоязычных примерах.</p>

      <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The article focuses on the approach to teaching the ways of expressing the category of modality on the example of popular science discourse. Popular science discourse is relevant for nonlinguistic university students working within the scope of their field, and the use of a variety of connotations of modal meanings will enable them to convey information to different audiences. The authors consider theoretical problems related to the interpretation of markers of epistemic modality, provide practical examples for comparative analysis of the expression of epistemic modality in English as well as in translation. The relevance of the study is attributed to a number of factors: the complexity and ambiguity of the interpretation of the category of epistemic modality in Linguistics, as well as the fact that the Russian language has fewer means of conveying modal connotations of meaning in the function of probability compared to the Russian language. The aim of the article is to study and develop approaches to teaching different ways of expressing epistemic modality in English on the example of popular scientific discourse. The goals were defined: to study the scientific and methodological literature on the subject, to identify the means of representation of epistemic modality in popular science discourse in order to determine the teaching strategy for choosing the necessary modal marker in the process of communication. The method of scientific description, comparative method, as well as the method of interpretation were used. The conclusions reached by the authors can be stated as follows: in popular scientific discourse there is a variety of modal markers that convey the modal connotations of possibility or probability. The application of comparative analysis in teaching how to use epistemic modality allows the authors to identify the difference in the degree of certainty in English and Russian examples.</p>
