<abstract xml:lang="ru">

      <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">

Background: the rapid growth of social media usage has intensified concerns regarding its impact on mental health, particularly the development of anxiety. Despite the widespread use of social media, studies specifically focused on anxiety arising directly during their use remain limited. Objective: to identify the presence of anxiety associated with social media use and to examine its relationship with socio-demographic characteristics and patterns of social media usage. Methods: an anonymous cross-sectional online study was conducted via Google Forms among residents of the Rostov Region and the Republic of Crimea. Anxiety was assessed using questions adapted from the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) scale to fit the context of social media use. Statistical analysis included the χ² test, adjusted residuals, and Cramér’s V coefficient of association. Results: a total of 314 people participated in the study. Anxiety related to social media use was identified in 84,3 % of respondents. Women demonstrated significantly higher levels of anxiety compared to men (88,3 % vs. 74,7 %, p < 0,05). The association between gender and anxiety was moderate (V = 0,17). No significant differences were found for age, education level, marital status, employment status, work experience, income, type of settlement, or frequency of social media use. Conclusion: the findings indicate a high prevalence of anxiety associated with social media use. This type of anxiety appears to be multifactorial and less dependent on socio-demographic characteristics.
