<abstract xml:lang="ru">

      <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">

This article presents a comprehensive review of traditional and contemporary models of working memory, highlighting their evolution and significance in cognitive psychology. Classic theories, such as the multicomponent model by Baddeley and Hitch, are compared with recent integrative approaches that capture the complex aspects of working memory in applied contexts. Particular attention is given to the interaction between working and spatial memory, as well as the differences between verbal and spatial tasks, which play a key role in understanding cognitive processes. The article examines the relationship between working memory and academic achievements, indicating that students with higher working memory capacity often demonstrate better results in subjects such as mathematics and reading comprehension. Individual differences in working memory capacity, influenced by cognitive abilities, are also considered, as they impact overall cognitive productivity. The adaptability, flexibility, and limitations of working memory in educational settings are analyzed. It is shown that student adaptation to learning tasks requires rational allocation of cognitive resources, allowing students to focus on key elements. Working memory flexibility supports the application of knowledge across various learning contexts and fosters critical thinking, especially in collaborative environments. Metacognitive accuracy and contextual anchoring help students to allocate cognitive resources more mindfully, thus supporting the management of educational strategies and enhancing academic outcomes. The authors emphasize the importance of a comprehensive understanding of working memory, which is crucial for developing approaches aimed at the effective use of cognitive resources in the educational process.
